Let’s face it, this is something that we all struggle with as the cooler weather rolls in. Hopefully with a few of these tips, we will no longer feel as though we are fighting a losing battle with static cling!
With the change of the season we do things to protect our bodies from the cold, so why aren’t we doing the same for our hair? Dry air = dry hair! As the cooler weather creeps upon us, it is important to start using a shampoo and conditioner that will hydrate your hair. This will not only make your hair nice and soft, but it will prevent dryness and make your hair less inviting to static electricity. One of my personal favorites is Hydrate shampoo and conditioner by Pureology. It makes my hair feel amazing without weighing it down. Adding a leave-in conditioner to your routine will give your hair an extra boost! I love It’s a 10! Love it! Use this as your secret weapon when battling with static!
Now it is time to comb through your hair. You want to avoid using plastic combs because they will only make your hair more staticy. Metal combs are good conductors and can not hold static electricity.
Now that you are ready to blow dry your hair it’s important to use something to protect your hair from the heat. Pureology Antisplit Cream is light weight and contains olive oil, which can be a great shield from the heat of the blow dryer. Using an ionic dryer is a huge help in preventing static! Ionic dryers are designed to bathe the users hair in negative ions which then attach to positively charged wet hair, locking in moister and neutralizes the electrical charge that causes static!
Last but not least, hairspray is going to be your best friend!! Spray a generous amount of hairspray onto your brush before drying your hair. This will help eliminate any leftover static in your hair! I personally like Flex Hairspray by Living Proof. First of all it smells awesome! It is super light weight and it doesn’t leave a funky residue in your hair after brushing it.
If you find throughout the day your hair begins to get staticy again, pat your hair with a dryer sheet, yes I said a dryer sheet. It will help eliminate those annoying flyaways and as a bonus, make your hair smell nice and fresh!
I hope that these tips are helpful and that you are able to have a static free winter!!
